The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
