Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
