Accused Stalker Inquired: 'However Suppose I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a recorded message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and evidence retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most publicized child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another voicemail, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The panel was told that via electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a attempt to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who compiled the information, advised the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I won't give up and I plan to establish my claim."
The court was informed the co-defendant established a association online with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in that area in December 2024.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the appearance to the village, that area, in last December.
The court was told communications between the two individuals, in last November, discussing attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We have to make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their residence, Mrs Spragg dispatched a communication which said: "We're currently sitting near the McCanns' house with our lights out like investigators. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
